Default TPS Tire Pressure Monitors Need Replaced

Hello,
My car is showing a TPS warning so I'd imagine the one or more of the sensors need replacing. Was wondering if the sensors are Jaguar specific or can any tire shop replace them? Is there any programming or other additional service needed besides just installing new ones? Thanks a bunch!

They have a battery life of around 7 years. So if you have not changed them out before this I would plan to replace all 4 at once. It's up to you but I find the correct sensor and use the cheap chinese ones. About $30 for the 4 sensors. All over on Ebay and places like that. I use Discount Tire and they have no problem checking the sensors on the bench BEFORE installation.

I have had a bad one right out of the box but contacted the seller and he sent me another one no questions asked.
What's difficult is Jaguar used different sensors and frequencies depending on the market and the car model.

Thanks a bunch for that information! I know the battery is good and the car is in excellent condition other than the battery. I'll contact discount tire and see what they say about the sensors. best, Dave

Sorry I was not clear. The battery I was talking about are the ones inside the TPMS sensors. They are non-replaceable and you must throw the entire sensor away when they go out.

I have attached an application directory as I don't know how deep you want to research this so it may not help and hopefully does not add confusion. People have really struggled with this but I had no problems. Even saw one guy used SDD to disable the entire TPMS because he had so much trouble with it. There are after market TPMS that you can use with your phone as an option to the factory setup.

To be honest the Jaguar TPMS is just very poorly done as you can't even read what the tire pressure is in each tire. If you get an TPMS error all it will say is which tire is low. That's it. They should have put an addition option screen in the car just for the TPMS like other cars have. Makes way more sense to show all 4 tires and what pressure they have in real time. It would have been simple to so.

I took the car to a pro shop on Wednesday to have the TPS evaluated or fixed. They said the sensors were working but they were unable to log into the TPS computer to reset it or at least diagnose the problem. I'm thinking of disconnecting the batteries and seeing if that would reset the system.
I'm a bit unsure of doing this on the car as I have no experience with this model. I have a couple of 2000 VDPs that I have a great deal of experience but am a bit unsure of doing too much with this one as I don't want to make things worse. Besides this problem, the car is flawless. Will let you all know if it resolves the problem.
Best, Dave

How long have you had this X351 and has the TPMS had the problem since you bought it?

I've only had the car about a month and it had the warning when it was purchased. Good news though! I just disconnected the batteries in the trunk, connected a jumper wire between the positive and cables for about 15 minutes, then when I reinstalled the cables, the warning was gone! Now the car has nothing wrong that I can tell. It's in amazing condition for a ten year old car. Thanks for the positive help in figuring this out. Best!

Yeah, I'm guessing it'll be back. It just takes a little while for it to go through it's motions then figure out the system isn't working.
We experienced the same thing with my wife's XJ.
There were no problems when we left the used car lot, then the TPMS light came on miles down the road.
We took it back a week later & they "fixed it". Again it went few miles down the road then came back.
I've tried reseting with JLR SDD, and it would clear while the system tries to reconfigure, but would always come back a few miles down the road.
After that I've had the sensors scanned when new tires were installed but they always said the sensors were fine.
A few years later we had the dealership spend an hour of time analyzing the problem, and they found no reason. They said the next step would be to spend a few more hours (and a few hundred more dollars) to pull the front seat so they could get to the TPMS control module & dig deeper into the problem.
We passed on that & just kept driving with that annoying fault; for years....
Then last year I finally figured I would buy a set of new TPMS sensors & have them installed, and had them give me the old sensors that were replaced.
That took care of it. The old sensors that came off were some old aftermarket sensors that apparently weren't the right ones for the system..
Somewhere between the first owner (we're the second owners after the car was repossessed) someone decided to do something with the wheels that resulted in these crap sensors being put on just to fill the spot apparently It was only about 3 years old when we got it, so it wasn't because the batterries had died yet. Just someone at the dealership or auction scavenging them, or maybe the wheels were swapped out if the original rims were damaged.
The new ones have been working fine since.
Problem solved.

Hmmm. Thanks for the heads up; I'll let you know if it pops up again but I certainly hope it's resolved!

Yes I agree with Mark. The batteries do not just shut off but die slowly. So they will work and then not work. Up to you but when I found the average TPMS battery life is about 7 years. I started replacing the sensors. They are cheap anyway.
Let's hope they keep working!

Driving it since Monday and it's still not showing a warning so I'm relieved about that but will continue to monitor of course and report back if anything changes. Thanks for the advice guy!

Well the warning came back after a week of driving. I guess now I'll get the sensors replaced but probably not this week and will let you all know if the problem is corrected! Bye for now, dave

If you do get them replaced, ask the shop to give you the ones that they removed. Then look at the markings on them to see if they were the right fit or not, maybe attach a pic or two of them to this post so we can see what was in there.

That is a very good suggestion! I just replaced mine and let the shop (DT) throw the old ones away. I would have been nice to grab a photo of one for future reference.

I gotta wonder if the longevity of these sensors is dependent on mileage as well as age.

Mine are original and working fine at 14+ years now.

But I just got to 40K miles recently so not a lot of "actual use" of those sensors.

I'm starting to think the problem is the control module as there is never a message relative to a particular wheel having a pressure problem. I have been looking into a replacement but am wondering if these modules are specific to particular years or models. Or are the same units used in an XF and the XJ? I found a video showing the unit located under the drivers seat on the XF so I'm guessing the location is the same on an XJ. If so, is the module the same?
Also, there are some XF modules for sale on Ebay. When I zoom into the pictures, I see the frequency is 4.33Mh/z. I'd think for a USA car the frequency would need to be 3.15Mh/z.

OK, Just where is the TPS monitoring control module located of my 2015 XJL? Under the right or left front seat or if not there, where? I looked under both seats and did not see that module. The climate control is under the left side, (USA drive side) and there are the usual seat controls mounted to the bottom of the seats. Under the right side is a positive terminal junction box but I did not see anything else under there so I am stumped.
Thanks for replying! Best, Dave

I am not sure but have you replaced the TPMS sensors yet?

I've had them checked by two different shops and they said the sensors are working but they cannot log into the TPMS module so I'm pursuing that at this point.
