Dealership wants $120.00 per liter for transmission fluid and $84.00 per 1L bottle for differential fluid

I found the ZF lifeguard fluid 8 on rockauto for $16.44 per liter seems too good to be true

 

Yes, like written before in other thread, ZF have priced the service parts and oils to reasonable level, just to keep transmissions serviced well, and their reputation up.
Naturally if you go to Dealership, they have their own idea of pricing.
Complete kit for 8HP, including pan with filter and screws including 7 liters of ZF-lifeguard 8 oil have price of 250-300 €uro on our (high VAT%) market area. (280-330 USD)
Same kit are suitable for following versions of the 8HP transmission: ZF 8HP45 / 8HP45X / 8HP45HIS / 8HP45XHIS / 8HP50 / 8HP50X / 8HP70 / 8HP70H / 8HP70HIS / 8HP70X / 8HP70XHIS / 8HP75 / 8HP75X / 8HP75HIS / 8HP75XHIS. (ZF did use same basic case for all versions)

I'm shocked how little oil the differential takes I thought at least 2 liters I think I will use AMSOIL

Make sure it meets the Jaguar spec. Not just the viscosity.
I don't know if the AWD uses the E-Diff or not?
Look up oils that meet what NBcat posted.
Castrol SAF XO or Castrol BOT 720.

I used a Redline product that does meet the BOT 720 spec for the E-Diff.

What is the BOT 720 spec? What if it has E-diff? then I have to use the exact same oil as OEM? otherwise big problem? Castrol Syntrax is the only Castrol gear oil I could find Amazon and RockAuto both recommend VALVOLINE Synpower Full Synthetic SAE 75W-90 Gear Oil
I wanted to use AMSOIL because of its cold weather flow VS Redline

 

I researched diff oil/fluid for my F-Type V6S a few of years ago.
My car has the mechanical LSD and the JLR recommended fluid is the same Castrol BOT 720 as for the e-diff.
Problem was I could not find a single seller of Castrol BOT 720 here in Oz other than to buy it from OS and pay a bloody fortune.
After mucho research I found another oil which meets if not exceeds the JLR spec which is readily available and a fraction of the cost of the Castrol brew - Motul Gear 300 LS, see here for example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/36426111635...Bk9SR7q5zauWYw
I bought a bottle then had the shop use it to replace the OEM diff fluid, that was some three years ago now, and the diff has been perfectly behaved ever since. If anything a minor diff whine I thought I could hear has now vanished.
Just make sure you get the LS version (stands for Limited Slip, duh!) and not the plain Jane version.

 

Right as OzXFR says it has to meet the spec but there are other oils besides Castrol that are fine. But it's not just the viscosity that needs to match.
I used Redline 75W90 #57904. Other manufacturers use it too. Mainly BMW.

You will need to find out what the AWD version use? I am not sure.
But it's your car so you can use what you want.

I checked with the dealership they said both the front and rear differentials use the same Castrol fluid I think he said BOT 520?? or he said 720 and I misheard

 

I found a Motul dealer 12 minutes from my house they have Motul Gear 300 LS oil for $35.45 per liter

 

 

Looks like the front differential only has a fill plug or drain plug not sure which one it is a fill plug or drain plug

 

If its only got one plug then its gotta be BOTH a drain and fill plug!

Don't know what's going on I got this print out from the dealer shows only plug at the bottom # 5 how can it be filled up from the bottom? is there a pump made for this?

 

I drained and filled the front and rear differential both differentials have fill and drain plugs the rear takes 1 liter of fluid the front takes about half a liter

So for those of us in North America it turns out that Stellantis, aka Chrysler Corp, introduced an 8 speed automatic transmission, 845RE, in the 2012 Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger, Originally these transmissions were sourced from ZF in Germany and were essentially 8HP70 transmissions. Later were built, under license from ZF, in the Kokomo plant. I have not been able to check out the Mopar transmission oil for 845RE transmissions but is likely the same specification as the ZF 8HP70 transmission. The oil pans are interchangeable.
