Hi everyone - having a bit of a nightmare and hoping someone could give me some advice.
I have a 2011 Jaguar XJ 3.0d, and had it plugged in to SDD to diagnose a faulty MAF sensor.
On the recommendations screen it suggested updating the software of the instrument cluster, so I went ahead and attempted this.
After 25 minutes the laptop crashed and the instrument cluster went blank. When I tried to reprogram/flash it fails time and time again.
Now the car will not start. It unlocks/locks using the key, the lights flash and indicators sound, and the infotainment screen will also function however the ignition will not come on and I cannot start the car.
I am using SDD V164, and the car is not communicating with several modules including the PCM and BCM.
Battery voltage is 13 and I have the car plugged into a battery maintainer.
I followed some guides here and tried to perform the immobilisation procedure however just get either a "communications error, general error or failed to write security target identifier" message.
On the CCF I can see the as built file has the VIN number, however the BCM and PCM are missing the VIN and just have a red X.
Is there a step by step process I could follow to either revert my car back to before it went into its bricked state, or to reflash the modules with the correct VIN and get the car started again?
Unfortunately from my experience you will almost certainly need a new module, and flash that one carefully, making sure laptop and car are on AC power and your VCI is fully connected and a good one like mongoose, not a cheap j2534.
What battery maintainer are you using? It might have too much ripple or noise. Might not have enough current. I had some problems trying to program modules when I was using the wrong charger during module programming
This happened to me also. My fault for trying to update without a charger. But your car wont start because the immobilizer chip is built into the instrument cluster. That was a costly mistake for me between getting car towed to Jaguar dealer, physically removing the parking the break since its now stuck and cost of new module.
