I'm bored. Home schooling sucks. Even the cats hate me being at home. It's been raining for 3 days.
So, looking at doing some preemtive work before I go stark raving mad!! Looking at the upper front control arms, they don't look bad at all (that's not the point). OEM arms run in the $300-500 range, after market parts are $50-170.
Has anyone had a good experience with after market arms. and if so. which brand?
These are all the upper control arms I ordered from Rockauto. The Delphi arms are fronts and Beck Arnleys are rear. I have only fitted the fronts so far and they are working well. I understand Lemforder are the OEM. You can get them all from Rock Auto. Check out the 2006 Lincoln LS as they use the same front upper control arms as the XJ. They list more compatible arms for that car.
So you can confirm that the X351 uses the same front upper control arms as the old X350, S-Type, and Lincoln LS?? I thought so but couldn't find confirmation.

They must be the same, as I bought the upper fronts from the 2006 Lincoln LS portion of Rockauto and they were a perfect fit. Look exactly the same as the original ones (except without the Jaguar label).
The upper control arms are very close. Even though I’ve never tried to interchange them. The biggest difference would be in the caster/camber side of the alignment. Let me know if anyone takes the time to come up with some actual proof of interchangeability.
After the Delphi arms posted above were installed I took it to an alignment shop. There were no alignment issues. At the time of my order, one of the arms (can’t remember which one) was cross-listed on Rockauto for both the XJ and the Lincoln.
Edit: The TC3548 part number lists C2D2475 as an OEM Alternate number. While TC3549 lists C2D2474, C2D36804 as alternate numbers.
Good to know but confusing as why there are 2 listings? Why the 2 casting numbers?
Because coming from a Lincoln LS they sure look the same. I replaced the front control arms on that car while I had my old S Type so I could put them side by side.

Just wanted to update this thread as well: the X351 does in fact use the same upper control arms are the X350, Stype, LS, Thunderbird. They are exactly the same.
Thanks for that as I found differences in the forgings but glad people have installed them with success. Much cheaper than Jaguar!

Excellent posts and threat - thank you. Hugely informative, and helpful as I am set to at least try to do a ton of work... I am replacing all shocks as part pf getting my 2013 3.0 V6 s/c X351's suspension back to as near original as possible, and am looking to see what else should be replaced at the same time... I assume given I am at 60,000 miles with very few (er, none...) truly knowledgeable Jag techs here, that doing as many rubber / perishable / wearing components as I can will be a good or at least prudent idea. I also have to replace the AC evaporator and similarly completely overhaul the AC system as the UV dye test sadly shows a leak, and as that means opening up the dash presumably best to do as much as I can.... I may also replace all plastic coolant pipes with metal and water pump (with Ver.7)
BTW - if anyone fancies a free trip to (much) warmer climes to assist and enjoy tropical beaches please feel free to DM...
I don't envy you working on that evaporator. Seems like the entire car is built around it.
Do start a separate thread when you do it. I have done plenty of AC work on my XJ but not anything to do with the evaporator thankfully. The compressor change out (2 Times!) was hard enough.
Are you 100% sure it's the evaporator leaking? It's not common but our cars are getting older so more repairs are to be expected. I only question this because it is such a big expensive job.

Thank you, C.A. - much appreciated. You are right again, for I am not *100%* sure, only because of the lack of Jaguar focused techs here, but two knowledgeable techs who do also work on Jags have both said it is the Evap. I will likely get one (or even two) more analysis done to re-check again, partly because an AC *specialist* shop said there was no leak...; but that seems highly implausible as the AC does gradually fade out after 3 or 4 days of driving or so.
At 60k miles i am surprised that the evap. would leak on a very good condition, garaged 2013 X351?? I am told the expansion valve (DPS valve?) is a similarly difficult task to replace? Am I wrong? For it would be nice to replace a couple of (hopefully, much) easier to get to parts just to see.... For now I shall have to live in the world of AC top ups...!!!
I did come across this product but I worry adding this may damage the overall system.... https://shop.errecom.com/en/
Thank you again, Clubairth...
EDIT from A.I. - "Products like Errecom Extreme are designed to remain free-flowing until they contact air at a leak site, potentially sealing small pinholes. However, professional mechanics warn that sealants can clog the expansion valve or damage the compressor, and they may render the system unserviceable at specialized shops."
Well we are getting way off the thread topic and it would be better to start a new AC thread!
The expansion valve is another item that rarely gives trouble and again I swear the car is assembled around that part too!
DPS is in the AC compressor. The expansion valve is mounted on the firewall about dead center in the car. Unless there has been a catastrophic failure of some kind that scattered debris and junk thru the system causing a clog there's not much that can go wrong with an expansion valve!
Your car but my experience with "miracles" in a can is not good. My last failure was trying to "clean" a bad catalytic converter using Cataclean. I ran 2 bottles of expensive magic juice thru the car. What I found out is you can't fix a bad catalytic converter with cleaners you put in the gas tank! It was a "Hail Mary Pass" type of repair because it cost me $500+ for a used cat. That fixed it permanently.

Thank you - yes, I agree with all of this also....!!! I will start a different thread when I have a minute, but for now just to say I do tend to agree with you that something remains "up", (as in likely incorrect) with the diagnosis I have received..., as why would a 60,000 mile, garaged, X351 have an Evap and Expansion valve fail? So far, all I have done is replace both belts (supercharger / serpentine and accessory) and topped up the AC, and so far the AC has not "leaked" again, but.., its only been 3 or 4 days. I must admit it is somewhat infuriating being so remote here when the AC specialist shop says there is no leak, and the best tech I know says there is a leak. WTF... :-)
