The black metal gaskets on my water pump one side has bumpy side the other bumpy side is upside down is it supposed to be like this? or are both sides supposed to be facing up? or down? or one side down other side up? I think I messed them up which side is up and which side is down? if this makes sense to anyone

 

It's probably the same gasket that is flipped to fit on the other side to save the money of making 2 separate gaskets. It doesn't matter which way the bumpy side faces because either way the gasket is going to get compressed between 2 flat surfaces to make the seal.

 

The gasket is the same, just flipped. Note that the piece that goes into the back of the pum that slips in, be sure you get the metal after market.
