Now, why can't Jaguar make a big coupe like the S-Class Coupe or the Lincoln Mark IX Coupe?
The rear quarter looks very 'British'...
Would any of you buy if Jaguar makes something like that?
I like it, but since i bought my Jag used and cant afford one new, it really doesnt matter what I think haha. For some reason the C pillar looks a little i8 like to me, but I still kinda like it.
MB has the S Coupe, and BMW is coming out with the 8 series again, but thats it I think. There doesnt seem to be a market for big *** coupes anymore, which is unfortunate.
The XJ6C of the 70's still stands as one of the finest Jaguars IMHO. An updated version would be a treat, but seems to be considered by manufacturers as a novelty.
Back in the golden 30's-70's era, it seemed every sedan had a coupe version. Even the 70's Caprice, LeSabre, Cadillacs, Lincolns, etc. all had two door variants. The trend continued into the 90's.
Sales must not have supported the effort to cut them down to two doors, perhaps due to the overhaul required for the unibody construction?
It seems as though today's coupes are branded exclusively as sports cars. Bummer.
Unfortunately the Whole World is now gone completely crazy with its "Double Decker Bus" mania, (aka SUVs), so the chances of new coupes being introduced is now very small. Even the saloons on which they're based aren't selling well at all. Apart from the Jag XJ, when was the last time you saw (1) an S-class Merc, (2) an 7-series BMW, (3) an Audi A8 ?

I still see the German's luxo-barges pretty frequently, but the ratio is still skewed heavily toward SUV/CUV. I would say 4-5:1. And it is unfortunate, cuz i do love a big coupe. My first car was a (shitty) big coupe, and had several sedan-based coupes since then, but the options slowly either dried up or went smaller. Its just the S coupe now i think, until the new 8 series comes out. Maybe that will spark a resurgence, but I seriously doubt it.
That being said, i would love to see that. The Buick Avista concept is a pretty nice looking concept
Buy a low mileage 5.0L XKR. They're affordable now and, except for the infamous water pump, are reliable, comfortable, fast and and gorgeous. The 4.2L XKR isn't as fast, but is just as comfortable and gorgeous and doesn't suffer from the water pump problem. Plus they're available as a coupe or convertible.

They have to go through a bunch to certify safety and emissions for every model so maybe those costs factor into it too if you have to crash test a dozen of them from every angle. But yes, I would certainly consider an XJ coupe if it were a real personal luxury car. Everything today tends to be a "sport sedan" and the ride quality suffers. I can count on my fingers the number of times I've carried a back seat passenger but for daily driving the asphalt cattle trails that Fort Worth calls roads, I prefer a luxury car with a longer wheelbase over a sports or GT car. I've often thought that my timing was just unfortunate that I got old enough for a personal luxury car just as they quit making them. The baby boomers really had it made, muscle cars in the 60s and real personal luxury cars with doors a mile long and veritable lazy boy recliners in the 80s after their first back surgery.
I had a 1985 Buick Riviera T Type back in the day. Absolutely loved that car . . . unfortunately, somebody else loved it too, as it was stolen from my home. I did manage to get it back a few days later, but the thieves ran the heck out of it, and the electrical system was never quite the same.
Mercedes just came out with a S-Class Cabriolet. I don't think the XJ would look as good topless.
I think one problem with full-size 2-door coupes is their huge doors in today's 'compact' parking spaces.
