Just purchased 2013 xj with 9000 miles has engine noise ie knock at low revs or traveling at little throttle can any one help regards tony k

I thought all diesels "knock" and "rap"; just the nature of the beast, and nothing to worry about, I would think.

 

At only 9000 miles I would not expect any big-end bearing problems, but the symptom you describe could indicate failing big-end bearings. It was not unknown for the previous 2.7 litre engine to suffer this type of failure, but so far not the 3 litre. I think it would be best to take the car back to where you bought it and get an opinion from the technician.

Was it a Jaguar main agent ? If it is a 2013 on 9000 miles you still have the factory warranty, surely ? A car of this year and mileage should be close to mint condition, frankly.
