Default XJ Sales Figures

Was reading an article and curiosity was expressed regarding the number of XJ Jags sold.

So, I researched it and here is what I found:
Jaguar XJ Sales Figures - GOOD CAR BAD CAR

No one else may be interested but if anyone was wondering, here you go.

Thank you for this informative post. As an owner of a 2011 XJ(L), I found it interesting that only about 100 per week of XJ models were sold in North America that year.

It is nice to not see yourself coming and going everywhere, and helps explain all the admiring double takes and "thumbs-up" we receive.

Thanks again!

A very rare car indeed. Whenever you pick up a friend or family member from the airport, you can be certain that they have never ridden in one before!

This is a pretty cool site.
I am going to reference this the next time someone tells me to look at a BMW.
12000 3 series sold each year!
Being the same is lame.

When one looks at the XJ saloons in general, we must not forget that for saloons, Jaguar had a one-model policy from 1968 on. The XJ from 1968 was the only saloon one could buy, and this continued right up until the S-type came out in 1998 thirty years later !! I was at the Motor Show in Birmingham that year to see it ! Then a bit later, we had the X-type. So people wanting a Jaguar tended to move onto the smaller models and the marketplace changed. The XJ became the premium model, and no longer the main car for sales numbers. Then, in 2008, the XF came out, and has, essentially, taken over the role the XJ once played. So I am not surprised by these sale figures at all.

The current XJ is a very high price car and is unlikely to sell in large numbers in individual countries. Of course if global sales are considered, then the car is obviously worth making and selling, but nothing like the lower priced cars. In this regard, it is important to note that the big saloons from the major manufacturers are no longer as popular as they once were. So Jaguar XJ, S-class Mercedes, BMW 7 Series, tend to be seen less and less nowadays due to the massive move towards SUVs

This move in the market towards SUVs has affected Jaguar quite badly, as they have no SUV to sell unlike Mercedes and BMW. OK, Jaguar Land Rover cover the market, but if you're a Jaguar dealer, you just have to get used to people walking/driving past your showroom on their way to buy an SUV. The good news is that Jaguar will have an SUV to sell in the near future on the lines of a "cross-over", not a full off-road "rugged" vehicle like a Range Rover.

Of course, Jaguar dealers will soon have the new small XE saloon to sell, so should be a lot happier before 2015 is out. But they do need a high-margin SUV to sell so the market is covered completely. Any manufacturer that fails to follow the money is doomed.

I too have that experience when I take my XJL out. Thumbs up and all positive comments etc.
Interesting statistics...
I was just in the UK and toured the Jag factory. If you are there and have an afternoon I highly recomend it. The thing that amazed me was the build tickets of vehicles on the production line were almost all destined for China. The reps there said it is a very hot item in Asia. Only one in eight cars were built to destinations in the US, Canada and the UK. go figure...

Seems clear to me that Far East motorists don't want to drive around in trucks, (aka SUVs). In that they are like me, a person who just loves elegant cars of any make !

I was far away from considering buying a Jaguar until, after seeing an XF on the road, I decided to visit a Jaguar dealer (the S and X type where far away from appealing me). I then saw the brand new XJ (it was 2010) and I could not resist. I had never felt so attracted by a car, and I wonder if I will ever feel that with another car (that I can afford).

It is, to me, a sad day when people prefer driving around in a truck (also known as a Sport Utility Vehicle, whatever that means). From what I've read the BMW Series 7 cars are the least desirable cars to buy and own, and any Mercedes is only one step better (German engineering might have been better over 70 years ago, but they never got mankind to the moon or outer space, and haven't done anything remarkable since).

But as you note, you have to follow the money, no matter how distressful; thank goodness for the Chinese capitalists. At least some people on planet Earth have taste.

Are you sure you've posted in the right forum ? This one is for the current XJ luxury saloon on sale since 2009.

I've tried to narrow it down further in regards to my 2014 XJR with carbon fiber trim and red leather...even got an official response directly from Jaguar saying they would not release that information as to not influence the re sale market of used cars!!!

Which makes me think my car is in the range of 1 out of 250-500...mainly just wanna know to know ya know!

Yep, apost8n8 inadvertently posted in the wrong Forum. How did this happen? He should have posted in the X150 Forum, for the 2006-up alloy-bodied XK/XKR models. See Post #5 in the link below to the thread for the chart that is the source of the reference to 3.5L XK production. I remembered this since I'm active in that Forum, too.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...igures-214273/

apost8n8 quickly scrolled down to the end of that thread and posted his comment, but didn't realize that he went past the end of that thread and into a related thread in the XJ Forum - this one!
