Default XJL Portfolio vs. XJ R Sport?

We are beginning to look at the Jaguars in the XJ series. I'd like to get your opinions on the Portfolio and the R Sport. Not In the terms of money--though that's a consideration too--but more in the ride, the quietness, the overall "Jaguar-ness" feel of the two. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Jag7, when it comes to ride, both are going to ride essentially the same as they share a common suspension. So, that should be a non-issue. The big difference between the two is the interior options. That is where the differences are going to shine. With this being said, you also need to watch what engine the cars are coming with. The braking system for the V6 is different than the braking system for the V8. This then requires different rims/wheels which may have an overall effect that is not what is desired. The V6 is going to have a smaller brake system (still more than adequate) which will allow use of 18" and larger rims. Where the V8 is going to mandate the use of 20" rims due to the larger rotors/calipers. This larger rim can have an effect on the smoothness of the ride. Granted, may also be a plus as the car is going to feel more connected to the road.

I test drove both a 2014 XJL portfolio and 2014 XJL Type R while the portfolio was awesome the R stole the show. It was so so so much more fun to drive especially with both dynamic and sport modes and of course the supercharged 5L. The car was also much more appealing to me as it had red leather and carbon fiber interior vs the portfolio which was all black and wood grain. I bought the XJR. Also looking at pricing of these cars the R seems to hold its value better vs the other models that are more readily available.

It may be worth mentioning that my R also has 22" wheels and I feel like it handles and rides similarly as the portfolio did.

It's confusing "but" I think he is talking about the newer R sport and NOT the XJR? They only have the 6 cylinder and are the cheapest/lowest level XJ's at $75K. They are a LONG way from an XJR!

I could not figure out all these cheap XJR's I kept seeing advertised. Looks like they started the R sport thing in 2017?

2014 XJR here too!
