It looks like I may have have to purchase a new drivers side (bank 2) catalytic converter. Sensors are good, apparently, according the dealer so they didn't replace. I'm curious if anyone has a source for replacement cats - obviously I'd like to avoid dealership prices and I'm even open to having the pipes cut and a replacement welded in.

The only replacement cat I have seen listed is for a right side (Bank 1) only available by Davico 18521 (https://catalyticconverter.net/i-304...converter.html). I have found the Davico 17410 that could possibly fit, but it isn't "officially" compatible for the XJR. It is however compatible with Jaguar XJ 5.0 SC (according to their website) from years 2010-2012. I believe there should not be a difference between a 2012 XJ 5.0 SC and a 2014 XJR 5.0 SC since they are the same engines.

The quality looks questionable based on pictures, but if it works... I'd consider it. Anyone have experience with replacing their cat? I am located in Canada by the way

 

I replaced my bank 2 cat based on some bad advice. I kept the original (good condition, no codes) in the box. If you can find someone to install a used one, I could sell you my spare for scrap price ($200) + shipping. Let me know.

Just an update - thanks to Nedoerr, my car now displays no CEL! His car is a 2010 XJL Supercharged and mine is a 2014 XJL R and both catalytic converters themselves seem to be to the same size and cell count.

However, it wasn't a straight swap - the piping was slightly different in that my catalytic converter assembly pipe as a whole, was longer than his. So I had a shop cut and install the important part out for a very straightforward install/swap.

It seems even although both of our cars are the same engine and size variant, Jaguar changed the exhaust layout for 2013 cars and up, for whatever reason. Nedoerr shows his pipe in the above picture and if you click on my link in the first post to compare, you can see the differences in length. In any case, it's the actual catalytic converter that matters, so feel free to find a used or salvaged one somewhere and have any basic muffler shop install it, should you not want to use the Davico brand alternative.

 

Hey Nick if you see this do you have any tips on getting the cat out of the car? I am working on the drivers side. I do see you have the earlier model that does not have the long curved pipe after the cat as yours is shorter and straight. So maybe it came right out because of this difference?
I did find out that the piping changed in 2013 BUT the cat is the same for the late and early cars.

I got all the nuts off and can rotate the pipe and cat a good bit. But don't quite have enough room to drop the pipe off the exhaust manifold? The flange is loose but does not have enough slack to clear both studs. I can get it off one side but no further.
The Studs are tight and I do have a new set of factory studs and nuts on the way but am trying to not break one or both yet. Heat and penetrant have not worked either.

If anyone needs them here are the part numbers;
Exhaust manifold studs - XR836503 About $5 each
Nuts for the above studs - XR82889 About $4 each and the size is M10.

Can anyone post what socket they use to remove studs with heads like this?





I have a set that sorta fits but they are made to remove struts and shock absorbers and none of those fit very tight. There must be a dedicated socket to fit this?
Where it's at I can't get a vise grip on it very well either.

The picture is Dorman 03117 which looks like what I need but don't have one yet so I can't be sure. About $8 for the stud and nut. Size is M10 X 1.5 which does match the Jaguar thread size.

Shock absorber socket or a double D socket is what they are called. I don't remember if they are standard sizes, my mother in law's acadia has one of these so it reminded me as i just looked at it. Kind of a weird socket to have, I don't have one but looks like they are cheap
