Default Alternator Pulley

Hi, anyone know how to take the alternator pulley off the alternator?

I’m having to swap out my alternator again (teaches me for using a cheap alternator replacement I guess) - but I have to swap the pulley with the new unit.

G'day N,

When I changed out my dodgy alternator I had to swap the pulleys over and to remove them I used a rattle gun on the nut and used an oil filter removing tool to hold the pulley secure.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Curious as to the manufacture of the V - 12 alternator

Just guessing there may be a difference when they changed over from the M something to the Denso engine regulation package

Rattle gun did it. Thanks.

next problem- how to get the new alternator into that top bracket.

I’ve done this job before once, and I got it in, no idea how , but this time, just couldn’t get it to slot in. Any tips?

Looks like that bush in the top bracket is sticking out to far or perhaps I’ve not got it aligned correctly somehow?

To move that bush outward a little so the new alternator will fit, use a combination of a socket just large enough to fit around the bushing, a long bolt that will fit through the bushing, a couple of washers, and a nut. Put a washer on the bolt and feed it through the end of the bushing that you want to push away from where it is inhibiting the alternator. On the other end of the bolt, place the socket with the open end facing the bush. Install the other washer and the nut onto the bolt. Use a pair of wrenches or a wrench and a ratchet to tighten the nut on the bolt, which will pull the bushing through the bracket to create more space for the alternator.

Here's a video that illustrates the idea:

Cheers,

Don

Awesome- I can see that will work, I’ll try it tomorrow, and should be back on the road.
