A case for Mulder and Scully? Or electronics playing up?
1997 DD6.
Spooky one tonight guys...!
Popped down to the car garage (it's secure but shared with other residents where I live) and noticed the driver's seat was completely reclined...I checked the door and it was unlocked!
And there was a facemask hanging off my wing-mirror!
The car hadn't moved for around ten days (and last night on my garage walk-through, everything looked fine, so the incident occured at some point between late Sun to Mon evening).
Nothing stolen, everything exactly where I left it, including SatNav in the glovebox.
After getting freaked out that someone had potentially broken in, reclined the seat for a nap and then left me a covid mask as a calling card, I subsequently think the electronics may have played up -- full seat recline is Memory 3 on the seat seatings.
I think the mask was a kind neighbours way of flagging something was up with the car to get my attention! We live in quiet generally crime-free village in Switzerland.
Would an electronics issue of this kind be unusual? The seat memory playing up wouldn't bother me that much, but if the car goes from locked to unlocked it could cause me some worry.
Thanks,
Matt
There is a way to go between the glass and the rubber seal around it and mechanically pull up the lock button
If this gets around the alarm system is a question
Part of the security system is to position the seat so you can easily exit the vehicle once you remove the Key and ignition pin ( on the pigtail connector ) position 4 to 5 make or unmake contact
Not until it reaches this position does the security lock control go from a live mode to a sleep mode only pulling enough current to monitor the alarm and not draining the battery with a peracetic drain
By rotating the column switch from auto to off position can you have the SLCU skip this exit seat position
By someone entering the vehicle in a non normal manner it may have put the SLCU internal logic steps out of sequence and may require a hard reset
But your non USA X300 has a security code in the stereo head that you would have to reinstall after a hard reset
The solution to not have a problem it it exist is to remove the positive battery battery post
You would have to reinter the trunk through the mechanical lock hat can be frozen from non use so it has to be maintained and spray lubed
Do not over tighten this post on re installation as the nut underneath the clamp bolt can split in half
You might be able to install a large rotary battery cut off switch commonly available and leave the factory terminal post alone
The drivers seat memory is known to be mysteriously faulty in some cars. With my old six, occasionally when I unlocked the car with the remote, the drivers seat would move forward and recline fully. That was definitely not the seat memory setting! It seemed to happen mostly on hot days.
If the doors are locked and the alarm set, I don't think the door could be jimmied open without activating the alarm. The key turn moves the switch to deactivate the alarm and electrically unlock; or the switch is moved by the electric actuation of the door lock with the remote. If any door is unlatched by any other means it will activate the alarm. For instance, sitting inside a locked and armed car then opening the door from the inside handle will set off the alarm. Also the switch is at the top of the latch assembly not far from the key barrel and If I recall it is protected by a metal cover.
Still a strange case. Maybe try unplugging the seat memory module under the seat to depower it and clear possible glitches. But the car should never unlock and disarm all by itself unless alien forces are involved.
