Front bushings.
What does it feel like to drive an xj12 with worn bushings? My 96 has new shock absorbers as it was bottoming out on most bumps but now it feels like it has almost no suspension and when traveling through intersections with tire track grooves going in 90 degrees to my travel direction, my transmission seems to clunk against the floor or at least it sounds like the trany hitting the floor. This car only has 85 thousand on it and appears mint. My 96 xj6 has 300 thousand and still rides beautifully so im not sure why this xj12 rides so rough. Any ideas?
tranny clunk might be the rear motor mount?
Are you sure the shocks are installed properly/are the right shocks? this sounds odd. I'm just finishing up my 96 xj12 front suspension which had some pretty seriously sketchy bushings and worn shocks before I took it all apart, but the car drove beautifully apart from clunks from the upper shock mounts. How well did it drive before the new shocks?

G'day mtotrainer,
Another source of a clunk is a worn centre bearing on the propellor shaft. This bearing is roughly under the rear of the transmission and sounds like the tranny hitting the prop shaft tunnel body work.
Cheers,
Jeff.
