Default Water Pump Removal

Has anyone replaced their water pump?

Mine is leaking, although I can’t tell exactly where from. I think it also leaked onto my alternator, which is on the blink.

I can’t find any instructions in the service manual.

Water pumps usually have a weep hole on the shaft extension on the bottom between the pully and the pump body

Looking for a Doc on the X305

Done this a few times. I can only remember the first step… break a water pump bolt off in the block.

see my wrecking yard rarities post for a picture of the water pump with everything out in front of it (radiator etc)

Here's same picture with bolt holes circled in red

The routine is

remove fan and fan clutch (4 bolts on water pump studs through fan), shroud
remove water pump belt
loosen smog pump belt (sits on right as you face engine)
get a piece of card with appropriate number of holes in to store water pump bolts in correct order as they come out (they are different sizes)
May need to undo/loosen the two smog pump bolts into side of block in order to get the two bolts that go through the water pump and into the block out
use a very large socket philips head on a breaker bar to get the one philips head bolt to the immediate left of the water pump pulley
remove hoses, outer part of pump )3 bolts)
carefully encourage water pump to part company with block DO NOT FORCE you don''t want to bend it
find you've missed some bolts
remove
//

Not easy to find new water pumps you may have to get yours rebuilt/ resealed and new bearing
