Default 04 Jag VDP fuel gauge reads low, but its not!

Hello all,
I have an 04 Jaguar VDP that the fuel gauge reads low and the warning light is on, yet there is 3" of fuel in the tank (verified by removing the passenger side fuel module and measuring the fuel depth) The driver side sending unit was replaced due to a leak around the sending unit gasket. BUT, the fuel gauge was acting up prior to that repair.
I found a TSB on how to do an instrument panel self test, but it does not work on the VDP model.
Anybody had this problem? and what was the fix?

This is a common problem. I had the same issue on my 2008 XJ and it was fixed by replacing BOTH sending units. The factory replacement parts are supposed to be better then the original ones according to my mechanic.

sending unit wiring may be restricting the float operation. May be worth checking the Jag service manual for specifics and reinstalling sensor.

Before you do anything drastic, put a bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner in a full tank. I read about it on this forum somewhere that the sending unit gets dirty or a film develops. I had the same problem and the Chevron additive worked. I may have done it twice in a row. I now use it once or twice a year and I've never had the problem return. A bit pricey for an additive but worth it if it fixes your problem.
