04 xj8 4.2l runs rough sounds like a rod knock
So i bought this hag for 500$ at an auction. The car ran fine. When i was getting gas the coolant hose poped and a lot of coolant went ontop of the engine. After a short while my car died by itself. It takes 10-15 times to get it to start and when it does it sounds like its running on 4 or 5 cylinders. I got 4 codes on the ecm.
p1638 ecm
p1000 ecm
p0128- thermostat stuck open
p0171 lean on bank 1
any ideas what it could be? Stuck injector? Check for coilpacks if they were fried by the coolant? Throttle position sensor? It drove perfect on my way home then when i stopped at the light getting off the freeway it died. Then i used a diesel truck to jump start it because the jag had a dead battery.

could be an injector , but more likely a bad o2 sensor , intake gasket , cracked intake manifold .
or if both banks are effected most likely a genral air leak . EGR pipe or PCV/ pipe , blocked fuel filter , bad fuel pump , cat issue .or bad/dirty MAF
if you check your fuel trims you can see if the issue is bank one related only or if bank two is close to triggering a fault code also.
then you will know the next step to search .
it will also need the thermostat fixed to achieve closed loop to recover accurate fuel trims . so your in catch 22 till thats fixed.
BTW p1000 is just a monitor systems check status . it will change to p1111 when the car completes its monitor checks .
it will not complete these with a lean code however. it reverts back to p1000 when you clear the codes .
