04 XJ8 Backup Sensor Fault
Hello again,
When I put my car in reverse the backup sensor just made a continuous beep (about 5 seconds), I'm aware this is a fault with the sensor but I'm unsure where to start. I looked it up and found that if you listen closely you should hear a clicking from the sensors but there is no sound. I checked the fuse but it was fine. I'm not exactly sure where to go from here as google has been no help. Hopefully you guys could guide me in the right direction?
Thanks, XJ804

The system is on the network and DTCs are logged in the reverse park aid module.
I would interrogate the module but I have IDS so it is easy for me.
It is possible to diagnose/repair without the DTCs but not as efficient.
Maybe someone in your area can read the module?

If the continuous beep is going I think it shuts the sensors down, so listening to the sensors then, you won't hear anything.
What to do is switch it off using the overhead switch, if your car has that, or try resetting the system, so that the fault alarm is cancelled, then switch it back on and put the car in reverse, ignition on, if the alarm is not sounding, listen closely to the sensors, and I do mean closely, get your ear right onto the sensor, make sure it's as quiet as pos around you, as it's a very... VERY... light clicking sound, when you hear it you will know it, but if you can't hear it, then either you are not close enough, or the system has shut down.
I have a Foxwell NT644 scanner and that picks up the fault codes on pretty much all systems on my 06 XJR, It can be purchased either for the Jag on it's own or for a fair bit more, it will come ready to hook up to loads of makes and models. It cost me £330 2 years ago and is updateable too. great bit of kit really.

I apologize for taking so long to reply and thank you for your replies but I came into a greater issue which has been consuming my time. I also figured out that it is just one bad sensor and I'll be replacing it soon.
