04 XJ8 Power Steering Whooshing Noise

I have a 2004 XJ8 with 35K and have had it to the dealer now 4 times for a whooshing noise with the power steering when cold. It only happens when cold and sounds like hydrolic fluid flowing through the lines. It's louder as you cycle the wheel back and forth.

They bled the system a few times and added the token additive. They really have been trying to solve it and I don't think they are running me around. The final verdict was that this is a normal noise.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a 2004 XJ8 with 95,000 km and live in Ontario, Canada. When the weather is cold (below freezing) & the car is cold I have noticed that the power steering does make a noise or wooshing sound when pulling out of the driveway (turning the steering wheel). Within minutes it will disappear. I'm not sure if this is similar to your situation, but it sounds the same.

I don't think anything is wrong with the vehicle, it's just really cold and needs to warm up. I'll be interested to see if others have the same experience.

Steering

2004 Vanden Plas with 76000 miles. I've had to replace the steering rack, but I don't think the issue you described led to that end. I hear the same noise when the car is cold. The steering doesn't pulse or feel heavy so I don't think there is anything wrong.
