Default 04 XJR Broken Headlight Lens/Cover

2004 XJR w\ HID (vin 16799)

My car experienced a bit of an accident, the video of which my wife thinks should be uploaded to the internets. I disagree. As a result, my car is experiencing the following problems:

- Parking light out
- HID light out
- Shattered inner-headlight cover
- Condensation in the outer-headlight (HID outage a result?)
- The reflective piece behind the parking bulb looks like it is either out of alignment or broken loose

Replacing the bulbs is easy enough. However, I have not been able to find replacement lens covers. Are these available, and if so, does anyone know the part number? Is there a separate cover for inner and outer, or is it a single piece of plastic? Given the condensation issue, I may replace the outer cover as well. If not, it sounds like I need a new headlight assembly.

Thank you

Hello,
You will need to replace the entire assembly. The individual plastic lenses cannot be purchased as far as I know. I went through this earlier this year when my passenger side outer cover was broken. I had to order an entire assembly for about $400 US. Call Noma Auto Parts in Texas. They fixed me up. 903-802-6464

Good luck

Thank you, Seafrost. I’ll give them a jingle next week.

I usually look on EBay?
Here is a passenger assembly for $100. It is used so it's hard to tell the condition just from pictures.
Interesting in that my 2005 S Type R had black surrounds on the outside head light but the XJR has chrome like the rest of the Jaguar line up.

Thats a good price for HID headlight. At least twice that in the UK.

@2004Seafrost is correct. NOMA Auto Parts on eBay is excellent. I've bought from them several times. Their parts are carefully removed, accurately presented, very well packaged and quickly shipped. I'd say they are one of the very best if not the best Jaguar breaker yard on ebay. When I need used parts, I'm always hoping they will have them. Never had an issue.
Good luck.

Is there a sure-fire way to determine the correct part number? It appears to be C2C26690.

Maybe not sure fire but I always check the Jaguar factory parts to see if they say it fits or not? Also Jaguar does everything by the last 6 digits of the VIN as they make lots of running changes.
But I don't find that part number as a valid number?
Can you check?

Lamp Assy, Combination
2004 R C2C22619 $645.75
L C2C22626 $645.75

These are the numbers I show in my parts list. Which hopefully will attach itself here. Page 11. If these are superceded, you should be able to find the new number by searching these.
Hope this helps.

You got to be carefull . Early models have inner headlight height regulating motor and at their bottom a ballast from Valeo Lad5g 12 pin .
(next generation is without that motor and only 4 pin Valeo ballast Lad5gL)
and also probably the 4 height sensors one on each
the thing is I believe that change happened abount G 14000 so early 2004
I have G8679 from april 2003 and G5000something both with 5he height regulating motor.
how to find out.
put the car next to a hedge or a wall start engine then flick on the headlights ... have a good look at the movement like eyelid opening from low position to up normal driving position (a little dim at start and brightening up)

(In the end it might not even matter ) if you put brand new ballast in to them even Oem Valeo Lad5g they do not support that leveling anymore. In that case you will get an amber light on the dash because of a default. In that no problem if you have some one with Sdd. Starting new session and tell the car it has Halogen instead of xenon Hid

luv2fly part numbers look correct. But you need the VIN to be sure as he posted? There were running changes made during production.
What are the last 6 digits of your VIN?

Sorry for the delay. The digits are G16799

in looking at units on eBay, I’ve noticed that most have a front cover that appears to be entirely made of clear plastic. The lense cover on my unit is clear only where light is emitted. The rest of the cover, which attaches to the housing, is black plastic. Does anyone know if the units with the completely clear cover will work?

Below are two photos from eBay. Mine is like the first photo. The only reason I haven’t bought it is that I am waiting for the seller to confirm there is no condensation in the inner lamp. Let me know if I am seeing things.

Non-clear cover like mine

Full clear cover

HI Petz,

I think that the change happened in early 2004 as you state, but I do not agree to the VIN of G14000 for the change. If Jaguar did a sequential numbering, which I believe they did, G14000 should have been built probably around mid of 2003.

I base my statement on the fact that my car is G20252 and was built in September 2003. It still has the height regulating motor in the headlights and the 4 height sensors on the suspension.

From what I see in the Jaguar parts catalogue, it also seems that Jaguar had not only different headlight units for LH and RH drive markets, which is normal, but also LH drive headlight units that were different for USA/Canada/Mexico markets and the rest of the LH drive world. It would be interesting to know what the differences were... maybe the height regulating motors present on one version, but not the other?

Best regards,

Thomas

auto level was removed because the coilover option was dropped before production, only x350 with coils is the armored car.

federal lights are always different just because of the cert on the lenses, there are no exceptions.

Not sure about the XJR but on the S-Type R. ONLY the R models had the black surround inside the head lights. They were interchangeable other than that.
Maybe different on the XJR?

Maybe this will help. I should have posted this sooner, but didn't remember that I had it. Matching the original part numbers sometimes helps on ebay. And again, NOMA on ebay has helped me find 2 good diffs for my cars, so I trust them to provide good products.

Thank you. The first pic in my previous post is part# C2C22624.It appears to be the right part, and the PDF you provided suggests as much. Hopefully, this is what I need!

Default Done and Done

So, a few weeks back, I replaced the entire passenger-side headlamp unit. It was my first time taking the front bumper cover off, but beyond that, the repair went smoothly. A picture with the new unit installed is below.

Advice to others:
- Ensure that all bulbs are working appropriately before reinstalling the cover. I gave myself a mental high-five for remembering to do this.
- Since you have easy access to all the bulbs with the lamp units out, go ahead and change them.
- LEDs are unidirectional
- Polish the other headlamp unit so the covers match

I sincerely appreciate the help of the learned members of this forum. Next up: fuel filter and front brakes and rotors
