Default Passenger Side headlight XJR

Trying to replace HID headlight on 2004 XJR. There is a removable plastic cover on the backside inside the engine compartment. I need to remove that cover to gain access. I can remove it on the driver side but am having no luck on the passenger side. I can unlatch the cover and move the top back but I can't get the cover out so I can get to the bulb -- I can get the cover off on the driver side.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ben

I just did this on my 2005 XJR.

I had to put a lever tool down between the cover and the main housing at the bottom and twist to widen the gap at the bottom and then pull towards the engine compartment. The grounding wires at the back dont help as they take up space. With some force I was able to get the cover off without damage.

In order to get the bulb out, I think you'll find that the front bumper needs to come off, and then you remove the complete headlight assembly.

If it's too tight a fit for your hands, or the cover, you may need to remove the front bumper cover and either loosen or remove the headlamp to gain access and replace the bulb.

One point I forgot is that the more you lever the top of the rear cover back the more the bottom "digs in". So when you try to pull it towards the engine compartment try and have the top part as far forwards as the lever tool allows.
I certainly was not about to take the front bumper off when it really is not necessary so long as you do not have very large hands!

Thanks much to all -- I'll see what I can do.

My instructions above are incorrect. I should have said the opposite in that the top of the rear cover should go back as far as possible towards the back of the engine compartment. There is a wire loop at the bottom of the headlight body that holds a protrusion at the bottom of the cover.

Here is a write up from when I replaced mine. It was pretty simple to remove the whole headlight. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...acement-70056/
