Default 100,000 Mile Question

My 2004 XJ8 has just hit the 100,000 mile mark. I have read numerous posts about changing the Transmission Fluid and i have a few questions...

1. Is it worth doin at this point?
2. Should I do a complete flush or drain and pour
2. Has anyone had any success with Mobil 1 synthetic tranny fluid?
3. Should I have the transmission control box reprogrammed after?
4. What about servicing the differential and torque converter in conjunction with having the tranny fluid changed. No one talks about these two things

Sorry for all the questions but cant find a clear cut answer. I had a 99 C230 kompressor and just died on me at a red light with 105,000 on the odometer. Never had transmission fluid change and sat in my driveway for 2 years before having enough money to fix. Dont want history to repeats!

Do a search on this forum. There is a long discourse from Stevetech and a fellow from Brooklyn. The short story: replace the transmission filter and fluid with Mobile 1 ATF. No need to reprogram trans if no problems present.

Don't know about torque converter. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

Do R&R brake fluid.

Do R&R power steering fluid with Mobile 1 ATF.

Do drain and flush rad and add new coolent.

Get that induction system serviced too.

Congrats on 100K mark. KBO mate.

1. Is it worth doin at this point?
- Ofcourse

2. Should I do a complete flush or drain and pour
- I'd do complete , (I ve done it twice and I got 80k on my car)

2. Has anyone had any success with Mobil 1 synthetic tranny fluid?
- Well use ZF Lifeguard 6 instead , and dont listen to other people saying its a sealed transmission you are not supposed to replace its fluid.

3. Should I have the transmission control box reprogrammed after?
- Well not necessarily but they reset my ecm

4. What about servicing the differential and torque converter in conjunction with having the tranny fluid changed. No one talks about these two things
- I'm not sure but i think they flushed my differential and converter as well

PS : Make sure to replace spark plugs and spark plug cables

FWIW, the Jag "Passport to Service" manual does not call for any transmission service...ever...unless leakage is noted.

If you're going to do it, I would recommend having a dealer perform the work because some ZF transmissions require elaborate procedures for purging air from the system upon fluid refill.

yes it should be serviced, and its not elaborate, just a pia since you have to pump the fluid up into the side of the trans under the car while its running. Then check fluid temp with a ir(infra red) temp gun, and when it in range and quits dripping youre done, seal it up
