trouble programming key fob

I've tried flashing the high beam wand four times and five times with the door open and the key fob in positions I and II. I've also tried pressing the valet dash button four and five times with the key fob in the ignition in positions I & II. None of these combinations work. I have a 2005 XJ8. Any other ideas?

crbea232: First and foremost, ensure all numbers on back of fob match original fob. Second, do a search for programing (no offense intended), there are plenty of reply's. I won't try to replicate exact instructions, just struggled through this myself. Most are the same. Start off with new batteries, have all key fobs available, you must do all at same time. Ensure door is open & high beam switch is pulled back before inserting key and the turning key to #1 position, then flash high beams 4 times, then press unlock or lock button on fobs a total of 5 times (not 5 each, 2 & 3 times each for a total of 5). If you don't succeed, try again, it will work eventually. Good luck.
