Default 2004 Jaguar XJR brake job.

Just pulled the wheels and cleaned the calipers on my XJR. Wheels and Calipers look amazing. I think a brake job front and rear is coming up.

Would love to know of the pads that recommended here on the forum?

Also does anyone have the minimum spec on XJR rotors front and rear?

Let me know and thanks.

I have a 2004 XJR also, and I've been very happy with my Akebonos. Low brake dust is the main benefit.

EUR938 for fronts, EUR592 for rears.

I went with Akebono's as well (on the rears) -05 VDP- and am very pleased. Very low brake dust. Went with aftermarket rotors - Beck/Arnley.

Default Thanks

I may check those parts out! Thanks! Any good sources for those?

Also the rotors still have a lot of meat. I think a turn is in order rather than a replace. Anyone know minimum rotor specification on XJR rotors?

My 2004 XJR had pads replaced about 20K miles back, front rotors turned, rears replaced. I hear that the rears wear faster, so perhaps that's why the rears were replaced. You may want to check the Parking brake pads as well, the inner pad on one side was gone at 65K miles and its hard to see unless you look hard. Purchased Parking brake pads at RockAuto.
PS Boston translation of FreakingAwesomeJag would be WickedAwesomeJag, if you wanted to know.

Kevin

This info applies to XJ and I am assuming XJR is the same.

New rotors are 30 mm and Jag say change them at 28 mm!

Why? so they can flog rotors?

If you do rotors, I would NOT do slotted or dimpled as the low speed noise is not appealing.

I am not certain what you mean by at low speed? What happens to the rotors at low speed?

I find that as you come to a stop from say 20mph, you get a slight whine from the brakes a they come to a stop. Bit like a buzz. Normal braking at 30+ is fine and no noise, just if you were driving along at 50, hit brakes to stop, at some speed as you come to a still, you will hear a slight buzz and whir.

My Forester has drilled and can hear the buzz from pads on holes over a bridge with a solid barrier reflected-not annoying but still a noise.
