Hi Guys,

I need to get my windscreen changed out on my 2004 XJR. Safelite came by this morning finally (long story) and tried to convince me to have them install their rubber chrome imitation molding reveal, which is 1/4" wide vs. the metal molding width of 3/8".

I said no way.

Now, they tell me that clips are necessary to be ordered from the UK and could take over a month to arrive.

I called our forum sponsor at SNG Barrett but they could not identify which clips I need to secure the chrome molding (Part #2 and #3) to the windscreen via the diagram link below:

https://www.sngbarratt.com/us/#!/Eng...AND%20FINISHER

There are 4 clips that are showing:

#6 - (Qty - 4) C2C25722
#7 - (Qty - 14) C2C25723
#8 - (Qty - 1) C2C4220
#9 - (Qty - 4) C2C18592

Personally, I'm leaning towards #7 but any advice is more than welcome so I can properly educate SafeLite.

I do have an original windscreen installed in my car but it is beyond repair and needs to be swapped out.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings, I am in a similar situation. I have an 04 XJ8 and need to get the windshield replaced. My insurance company of course wants me to use Safelite since they don't want to pay the dealership to do it. My issue is that there are metal clips that appear to hold the windshield in to the inner molding under the molding. Safelite initially threw their hands up when even the dealership couldn't figure out which part it was that was needed. If anyone knows what I'm talking about or has a part number I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Robert

I had a replacement windscreen fitted recently and no 7 clips are fitted to my Jag.

The new glass is Chinese made and has "fy" logo on it.(or something similar)

The fitter who did my Mercedes told me that Chinese customers insist on original glass!

After searching I found all the clips. Safelite senior installer sent refused to install their windshield with clips.

I relented and had the windshield installed with their chrome flex trim. After the molding was removed it looks like the clips are set with the windshield when installed.

One would think the windshield would need time to set and dry before attempting to reinstall the molding. I think that's the issue.

Time is money.

Net, net the windshield is set well. Had over an inch of torrential rains today and no leaks!

Have you noticed an increase in noise with the Safelite windshield vs the OEM? I'm going to need to get mine replaced eventually because it has a crack in it.

I left the girl parked a few days to ensure everything set well. I'll let you know.

No increase in noise.

On the Safelite site I ordered the non heated windshield with the black tint.

If you want to retain your original molding I have all the clips you would need.

Hi,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but my question is directly related.
I need to replace the windshield on my 2004 VDP. I am using Safelite to do the job, and they need the clips to be available before they do any work. After a month of waiting on them to source the clips, they came back and told me they were not able to source them, and asked me to source them myself. I was able to find the clips from my local dealer, SNG Barrett and few other vendors.
The available clips are #6,7,8 and 9 as listed in message #1.
Is there a way to find out which of the 4 clip types my windshield uses without removing it, or do they usually use all 4 types?

@meirion1 , you mentioned that the #7 clips were used when you replaced your windshield. Were these the only type the windshield required, or, there were other types where old clips were reused?

Thanks.

So even when you find the clips, you will realize SafeLite will come back to you and say that they are incompatible with their windshields. (Happened to me)

You need all 4 types of clips.

Good luck.

You may find yourself sourcing an independent windshield installer.

When I had my windscreen done there was a problem with one clip
which was a no. 7
I did not see they other clips which they fitted but I would guess that
they were all the same.

Just to close on the thread.
I ended up purchasing all the clips (#6 - (Qty - 4) C2C25722, #7 - (Qty - 14) C2C25723, #8 - (Qty - 1) C2C4220, #9 - (Qty - 4) C2C18592) fully knowing they won't all be needed, but they had to be available in case they were needed. Safelite is the company that replaced the windshield and they did a very good job. At the end, they only used 5 of the C2C25723. I will be trying to sell the rest.
