Default 2004 Parking Sensor Problem

Hello All, First post here. We have just purchased a 2004 XJ8 with 60K miles and just love it. We knew the parking sensors did not work when we baught it and hoped it would be somethign simple. I have read all the post I can find and checked everything I think I can check and am now at a loss. Excuse me if I speak in error, but I think I have raed everything in detail. It only has the rear sensors so it is not the switch, I checked the fuse and that is good, I do not recieve the 3 sec tone when going into rev or on start-up so it does not see a system fault. I have the set parking break in rev and listen for each sensor and they all are clicking about the same. So here I am.. Anything you could offer would be great. We love this car and got it for a great price, knowing it's history of issues, but we figured we would roll the dice.

Could it be the sounder? People have reported problems with it on these forums. It is located on the rear parcel shelf but it's a pig to get at. Search this and the uk forum for more info.

Can't do links! search for "parking speaker" on this forum.

Well I have found a few post.. thank you. I dug into the truck to try to find an issue, removed cover and there she was. The speaker seamed to be hooked up, but I removed the connections and cleaned them with electrical cleaner and still nothing. I am looking for a new speaker, but cant seem to find one yet. I hope this is all it is. Looking at the speaker though I am wondering if anyone has replaced this with another speaker. Yes I would need to cut the wires and such.. but just wondering. Also why wouldn't they wire this into the car audio system? Anyway getting closer and still love this car. Thanks meirion1 for pointing me in the right direction.

You need to test to see if the speaker is faulty.I am not sure but I would connect up a DVM to the speaker supply- set it to amps and see if you get a current with your leg near a sensor!
