Default 2004 Transmission Problem

My 04 white Jag is having a problem. When it appears at about 9-10mph it shifts from 1st to 2nd but that shift most often times can be felt and depending on local speed limit it can feel quite violent. I was wondering if anyone else has/is experiencing this problem with the XJ and what the solution is.

I know I have to take it in to the dealer for diagnostics because it needs all of the control arms replace in the rear and new rear struts. ARGH!

I purchased an aftermarket warranty to go with my white Jag. However, that has been a problem within itself as it won't cover the control arms until they "fail" whatever that means. Rear struts are on me which is a joke but I am looking at some re-manufactured ones.

Anyone's help/thoughts on the tranny would be great though!

Thanks
Brian

The software controlling the tranny probably needs a re-flash to reset the pressures in the box. Yes, it shouldn't happen this way, but as the box wears slightly the pressures need adjusting to reflect this. I had rough changes 2-3 and a re-flash cured it.

I suppose one day, Jaguar will employ a guy who really knows how to write software to control a ZF gearbox so that the owner doesn't have to go to a dealer every so often to get it sorted out !! These boxes are usually pretty reliable and many owners have done 150k miles with them, (and counting).

For the struts Arnotts https://www.arnottindustries.com/
The transmission is a different one

I took my XJ8 to the authorised ZF guy in Melbourne Australia while I was on holidays down there 2000k,s from my place
It probably needs a re-flash I am not exactly sure my transmission had no problems

I just had all the fluid changed and new filter and general service done my car had 163,000k,s about 100,000 miles on it came with a full dealer service history but when the ZF guys looked at it they said it was the original oil

I don't believe in this oil lasting forever would you leave the engine oil in the engine for 100,000 miles no you wouldn't

just an opinion do some searching on the net for your nearest ZF transmission guy some shops will say yeah we can do it

I heard that one before cost me a lot of money for nothing I just take it to the specialist now

I dropped the car of in the morning and he had it done in 2 hours

I just took my business stuff to do drank his coffee and waited till it was done bigger shops have pretty nice lounges these days LOL
