Default 2004 xj8, reverse parking alarm not working

I recently had some work done on my xj8. When I got it back the reverse alarm didn't work. Is there somewhere I can check to see if perhaps they unplugged it? Perhaps an on/off switch? (I do not have the front sensors)

Hi Tom. You might want to provide a bit more information. By not working, you mean you don't hear the multiple beeps, or you don't hear the long beep when putting in reverse (meaning system failure) or you hear nothing. If you hear nothing, I would check the speaker.

I addition to the speaker - I would check the fuse.

Thanks to all who replied. It turned out to be a bad speaker.

how did you determine it was the speaker? did you repair it yourself?

Was curious on that as well. My xjr has no noise that I'd expect to hear from the sensors and am suspecting that it is probably the module that is located in the trunk. I think someone had said to listen outside for some sort of noise or clicks in the back. I only have the rear parking assist. Already checked the fuse, don't know where the speaker is located, but will have to hunt around. I ordered a used module ( for my car) 2W93 15K866 AC and will see if that quick swap out works. Different connector...sort of a cam lock type that took a few minutes to figure out.

in my case, the system works. I was just curious if the poster would elaborate on how they troubleshooted to the bad speaker.

according to section 86.54.19 of the workshop manual, the speaker is under the parcel shelf. you have to remove the parcel shelf for access

supposedly while the car is in reverse gear you should hear clicking noises from the sensors.... unless you have a very long neck you'll need an assistant in the driver's seat while you listen for the sensors... haha

I was told that the speaker was bad by an experienced Jaguar mechanic in my area. I did not watch him diagnose the problem as the car was in the shop overnight for a more serious problem...which he fixed.

I have wondered though, whether he really checked it out or just told me the usual answer. I am going to take it to another shop to get it fixed. I want that feature to work as it helps you keep from dinging your Jag. I want my cat to stay beautiful for a long time.

When it is fixed I will post about what was wrong.

The weak links in this system are the sensors and sometimes the sounder.

I seem to remember that it is possible to check the operation of the sounder

using wiring at a rear light.

Need to check diagram for details.

I could never hear any sensors ticking but I do have a slight hearing

problem.

LOL

The problem was diagnosed using a code reader. They had to remove both parts of the rear seat and the package deck to fix the speaker.
