Default 2004 xjr

I have a weird problem. On startup my windows and wipers don't work straight away EPB doesn't release straight away and if warm, the temperature gauge doesn't work straight away..After about 15 seconds they all work and everythings back to normal till I turn off, then away we go again.
I suspect a bad earth, but which one? Any ideas?

how is your battery? I'd first check to ensure you battery is working a full capacity. If not, weird issues occur like what you described.

New or not check the voltage across the terminals with engine off.

Just because it is new does not mean that it is operating at full voltage. Multiple discussions in here on that.

Could well be grounds, check them, but just what was the standing voltage of your battery?
They do draw a lot of power, & like a strong steady source of current to stay happy.

When my electrical system went goofy on my 2004 xj8 a few years ago it was the ground nuts behind the headlights that were loose. Particularly one behind the passenger side inner head lamp but it was easy to get to. The one behind the drivers side was more challenging. Once I tightened them up a bit (not too tight, they're aluminum remember!) all things went back to normal. I think those behind the lights are subjected to the elements and maybe more jarring and bumps from normal vehicle movement then those on the inside of the car (?).

These grounds (= "earths" here in the UK) get all the water and salt thrown up at the front of the car, so can corrode badly. Some corrode so badly, that when one tries to undo the nut, the whole nut and stud break off together, and you have to replace the stud and nut. It is possible to buy titanium bolts and nuts, (stainless is not recommended), or even aluminium bolts and nuts in better material. Once replaced, coat with anti-corrosion wax. I never had this problem with the two X350s I had, but I did coat them with Waxoyl, an anti-rust wax, which also deals with aluminium too..

Do you get the time delay, when you put the key in position 2, without starting the car?
