Default 2005 XJ/R, need help..please

Hi, my name is Dan and I'm brand new to the forum, and I need your help!!
My Jag is an 8 cylinder automatic.
A couple of hours ago I was backing my car up, I moved ahead a bit and put it in park. I heard a sound, then I noticed that even though my car shift lever is in park, the N (Neutral) light is on, and the shift lever is locked in park and I can't get it out.
I turned off the park brake and the car is in neutral, the shift lever is locked in park.
I tried re-starting it and putting on the break etc, no luck at all.
If anyone can help , I would appreciate it, I'm stuck.....thanks.
Dan

Welcome to the forum Dan,

I've moved your question from Canada Region to X350 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

When you get this issue resolved, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Look in the manual to see if there is a emergency
shift lever release like the earlier models.

Check the shifter cable attachment at the transmission----you will likely find one stud missing and one loose, you will have to jack the car up to check it.
