Hi, I'm looking to try and retrofit Powerfold mirrors to a 2006 X350 and I have a couple of questions.
Are the X-Type powerfold mirrors the same as the X350 XJ6?
Can you just swap the colour matching shell from the existing non-powerfold mirrors onto the new powerfold mirrors?
Once you've swapped the mirror control switch for one with the powerfold button is that everything?
More interested in being able to fold them from inside the car rather than worried about the folding on locking.
My 2006 X350 is the base model V6, and it has the power fold mirrors (although only one works, I still have to fix it) There is a button on the arm rest by the mirror adjustment controls. If the button is there but they dont fold then you have the same problem as me i.e. the mechanism is gunked up and need cleaning out. my problem with this is getting the outer cover off.

Reason: missplel.ing
the button is there on the mirror/window control switches so it defintely doesn't have it fitted.
The x-type mirrors look the same but I wasn't sure if the internal wiring was different?
the x-type and s-type mirrors are the same depending on electrochromatic or not. i think all x350s have the little lights on the bottom and the harness will probably be different
the color match shells can be swapped between all 3 of them
I don't think the s type door mirror is the same. They do look similar though but I looked at a local s type and they are different. Also if they were the same the breakers would be charging the same price for both. In the UK an s type mirror is about £40 and an xj is £150. I am sure I have seen this asked before on the UK forum. The breakers are quick to notice parts interchange ability and move prices accordingly. I remember not long ago passenger door window mechanisms were cheap because it was the driver's one was the one that would snap. But they are now the same as the driver's side because you can strip it to fix the drivers side.
unless you live in a city with tight parking, i can't imagine why anyone would spend the money and time adding this feature. Yeah, its nice, but necessary?
