Manually folding side mirrors standard?

Manually folding side mirrors standard?
I've recently purchased a 2003 X-Type without folding power side mirrors however, by looking at them they seem like they should still fold manually. I've tried to fold but they don't seem to move. So my question is do manually folding side mirrors come standard? Am I somehow not doing something correctly when trying to fold them? 
I've search the forums but couldn't find any specifics on manual folding. Any help is appreciated!

On my X-Type the mirrors do fold, but not easily. They are very stiff to move and I never move them myself, afraid they will break.
A few times, after leaving my car unattended, I've come back and thought the mirror was broken. Thankfully, someone must have bumped into it and it folded. This has happened two or three times in 8 years. I think of it as more of a last hope to prevent damage than something I want to do on regular basis.
