2006 XJ Navigation DVD
Hey guys ...
I have a 2006 XJ Sedan that uses the Navteq DVD system for North America. Every time there is a new update, I just go onto NavTeq's site and order the new one.
For some reason, I am having fits with the 2010 version. I purchased one last year but it never worked properly so I waited to see if it was a problem with the database by ordering a new one (still 2010) this year.
Same problem.
Basically, so long as I am driving around town (speed under about 30MPH), the system has no challenges keeping up with my location on the navigation screen. However, once I get on the highway, the screen essentially freezes. It comes "unstuck" if I zoom in/out OR my speed drops below around 30MPH. If I hover around that speed, the screen updates it fits and starts.
Its almost like there is TOO much data on the newest DVD for the 2006 system to handle. So it overwhelms the processor in the navigation system causing it to pause as it tries to update. In fact, it looks exactly like what happens on a computer when you try and open too many programs at once ... things just sit there waiting to happen. It doesn't shut down and will catch up if I come to stop, but while moving it just can't keep up unless my speeds are slow.
Putting the 2008/2009 navigation disk back in works just fine.
I have scoured Google trying to find a solution (or anyone else with this challenge). The dealership doesn't seem to know either but recommends I purchase "their" version of the DVD ... which is the Navteq ...
Before I go for broke on that solution, I was hoping someone here would either know of this or possibly point me in the right direction.
Take care!
