Default 2006 XJ Sovereign V6 loss of torque

Hello everyone,

New member on this forum and to diagnosing jaguar related issues. The issue the car is having is when accelerating I can floor the gas peddle all the way down to the kickdown switch and the rpms will go up as usual all the way to redline, but the the speed will only crawl up slowly. A 50km\h to 100km\h acceleration like a on-ramp would take about 10 seconds. The car displays no dashlights and does not have any noticeable sounds or vibration when accelerating. I have not scan the car for codes yet as I am currently in a 3 week quarantine as I just arrived in the country and trying to research and see what I should look for when I am able to. I have a jlr sdd on the way to do some diagnostic when I have it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
A bit of a background of the situation is the car belong to my father in China and I am currently visiting for half a year or so and would like to see if I can figure out the issue with this loss of torque. The car has about 85000km on it and for the last 5 years is only gets driven few times a month unless I am visiting then I usually take it out when I need a car. the last time I came to visit was 2 years ago and I had driven the car with this issue and it make it quite hard when you need to pass a truck or merge on the highway. We had this car since new and I personally love the car and would be love if I could get it running as it did normally.

Thank you for any suggestions!
Chao

Sounds like something is wrong in the transmission if the revs go up, but the car doesn't accelerate. You may have a torque converter failure, or clutch problem in the auto transmission.

Yes, that seem to be the area where the issue is. I am hoping the car would give a code the would make it more apparent whether it's the torque converter or e-clutche related as I saw e-clutch slipping could be also caused by a failed solenoid or mechatronic seal.

Possibly blocked cat(s).

Either way, get a decent OBD tool and look at:
1. codes
2. live data
as soon as you can

Thanks for the input JagV8. I had at look at some videos of the symptoms of blocked cats and indeed it seem very similar to what I am experiencing. Once I get that SDD software figured out I will get some codes as soon as I can and regarding live data which parameters should I look out for.
