2008 xjr vs. 2004 xjr
I just had my neighbor crash into my mint 2004 XJR with 42k on it. Insurance company considered it a total loss. I may have already located my next Jaguar (#6) its a 2008 XJR and I was just wondering how compatible the systems are considering they are both x350s yet 4 years apart in age.
Are the suspension components identical? interior wise? Engine wise? Would be nice to keep my 2004 XJR for parts should I secure the 2008 XJR Hypothetically lets say worst cast scenario, engine or tranny failure in 2008 down the line sometime... would the engine and transmission be able to be swapped from the 04 into the 08 without an issue?
Seems like a good call to me (getting another x350 when I have a 42k 2004 xjr with significant body damage but unaffected in every other way)
Just wanted to check in with the jaguar forums community and see at the very least what upgrades I am looking at in the 2008 besides the visual exterior differences (mirrors, grills, etc.)

The 2008 will have any component improvements made since 2004, and there may be quite a few of these, mainly unannounced, (you just see a different part number from a particular VIN). The main components of the car remained the same apart from the restyled parts of the body, and these were mainly cosmetic. Engine and transmission remained the same over the production life of the car AFAIK. Air suspension the same etc. There will be minor trim differences and one or two switches moved position, like the Valet switch to stop people pressing it when they wanted the seat heaters on !
If you have the chance to buy a 2008 go for it, you should be OK. Sell the old car parts to get a bit of dosh back.
Oh, and maybe you need to move to another part of town if your neighbour is a bit flaky with driving !
