Default 3,500 mile vacation ride and NO problems!!!

My wife and I drove the 2005 XJ8L from Jupiter, FL, to Plattsburgh, N.Y., and back, a total of 3,500 miles and the car ran great. Not a single issue. Did get a notice in the mail when I got back from the State of Maryland, complete with pic of car and tag, that I was doing 76 mph in a 55 mph zone and they would like $40 from me. the car averaged (according to the cars' computer) 28.5 miles per gallon. Great ride and a great trip.

Sounds great! But it worries me that you sound almost surprised that the car didn't break down!

You sound surprised that such a new car would make that trip problem-free. I've taken 15+ year-old cars on longer trips without worries.

I always remove my front license plate (Colorado) before road trips. Makes it just a bit more difficult for them to enforce photo radar tickets. Registering my cars in my company name and a radar detector helps too.

amcdonal86 . . . my concern was that if the car did break down that it would be a long, long tow to a dealer.

DB6 . . . this was one of those "photo radar" tickets; no officer involved just a photo of my blurry car and another photo of the tag on the back of my car. Before I pay I'm going to verify that this is legitimate (though brochure that came in the envelope with the ticket look real). Also says it is not a mark again my license and will not be reported to the insurance company. Makes $40 a bargain.

twotone . . . In Florida we only have tags on the back of the car and that's what they got. Not a problem I know I was speeding, I'll pay.

Glad to hear you had a good trip. Nice to hear because we usually only get complaints here. Got a speeding ticket in Montgomery AL last Thanksgiving and it was $340!!

I never heard of a $40.00 speeding ticket (specially for 21mph over), partic in that neck of the woods; and I never heard of no points or penalties being applied either?

You're right DB6; that's why I'm a little suspicious. the materials that came in the envelope from the State of Maryland all look legitimate; but this weekend I'm going to make some inquiries and check it out just to make sure it really is legitimate. $40 speeding ticket, no mark on license, and no report to the insurance company . . . just too good to be true.

Its bogus man, there are no $40.00 speeding tickets, damn that wont cover a parking ticket; plus no law enforcement agency is going to say "Also says it is not a mark again my license and will not be reported to the insurance company."
Either you are in an elaborate scam or I really would appreciate some of your stuff for my personal recreational use.

It's real. I live in MD. In construction zones on 95 and 695 there are vans with cameras that they move around from time to time to take pics and process tickets. I got one on 695 for 14 over, they allow up to 12 over.

Apparently it's against some law to assign points without an officer present.

As to why it's only $40, I have no idea. They have a license to print money and they decided to start with one dollar bills.

thanks, Oilstain, as long as it's real I'll be more than happy to pay the $40. I guess the "big brother" thing is real, I suppose it's just matter of time before all the states/municipalities jump on this money-making bandwagon. Guess I'll have to watch my speed in the future.
