Default Alternator

My 2000 xj8 I have owned for 10 years, 220000 mi. Awesome car!! I am a relief captain and drive a horrible amount of miles, spend a lot of time in the car,and always at night, The original alternator replaced 5 years ago. Since then, I am on my 8 th alternator. Replacement came from orielys with a life time warrienty so after 6,7, months they blow, and they give me another. I had the cars electrical checked out, nothing wrong with the car. Orielys cost 250$ and the dealer wants 750$. Should I bite the bullet and buy a dealer alternator? Are they different from auto store alts? Please help me someone, I'm at wits end. Does anyone know the difference? Cheap diodes? Regulators?

You might want to find a shop to rebuild the alt. I know that my auto electrical guy can rebuild it to or better than original specs, with top quality parts. Just dont take it to any old shop. Find a GOOD one. You know, the one with the 70 year old guy that knows everything. I'm lucky, I have one of those 70 year old guys.

thanks I think I know a guy that fits the bill. I can't figure because the auto stow alternators att Nippon Denso, and that to me sounds like s good bet, but rebuilt might be second rate diodes and regulator. Thanks for the brains!! Chandler
