Arnott coil conversion experience
I installed the Arnott coil conversion kit on my 04 x350 this weekend. All went well and I am very pleased with the ride and feel. Here are a few tips that might be helpful. I did this job via jacking the front and rear.
Don't forget to chock the wheels in both directions as the tie rod release step leaves the car in neutral!
I suggest making sure you can loosen the front lower shock mount bolts before taking anything apart. These require a torx t60 bit to remove. Some owners have a heck of a time getting them to budge and it is best to know about this before you start pulling out the rear seat and trunk panels.
Front:
Make sure to tie the steering knuckle to the upper a frame before releasing the upper ball joint so it doesn't flop down and stretch the brake lines.
Watch those brake lines very carefully as you pull the knuckle down to make room to remove the shocks. It is very easy to forget about the lines as you wrestle out the shocks.
When reattaching the knuckle to the upper balljoint, make sure that the sway bar link is hanging free. It is very easy to accidentally get it wedged in the wrong position.
A long jack handle or pipe comes in handy to lever down the sway bar to align the link with the mounting bolt on the lower arm.
Rear:
The rear is a breeze compared with the front but lining up mounting studs with the holes in the trunk is a two person operation. Placing a jack under rear shock to hold it in place during alignment makes the job much easier.
