Axle nut size
Good day. Can someone confirm the rear axle nut size on 05 super v8?
At parts counter, gonna try a 36mm and 34mm and see.
Thanks-
Mag

36 too big, 34 too small...
It probably should be 35mm but is a poorly made nut.
You will find these nuts very tight and you might need an impact driver or
a 10 foot scaffold pole!
You may also find the hub very tight on the half shaft splines.
Good luck

We found that 35mm was closest to axle nut size but would not slide onto the nut. By poorly made, did you mean that the socket would need to be hammered onto the nut?
We did not resort to this activity, so after trying standard sockets as well, we punted.
So, is it 'common' practice to need to force a socket onto the axle nut?
Thanks

By poorly made I meant not sized accurately.
No it is not normal to hammer sockets onto nuts.
I assume you are now saying that you have not decided not to attempt
to undo the axle nut?
IMO that is wise since since the nut is very tight and if you damage it then
you will end up cutting it off.
I suggest as a first step you measure across every pair of flats with calipers and see where the problem lies.
I have spare used half shaft with nut which I have just measured and got an average of 35.76 mm !
ie 1 and 3/8 inch across flats will be slightly small but 1 and 1/2 inch across flats (AF) will fit but 3/32 inch too big.
