Default Bluetooth/using mobile phone through car's system

Hello, thanks for looking. I am in England, and the car is UK spec.

I have an XJ6 from 2003, SE trim, which has a Motorola car phone in the armrest.

Before I give up and buy an external bluetooth device for using my mobile phone in the car, is there a simple & cost effective way of converting the car phone connection so that I can jack into the car's audio/phone system with the mobile phone?

Depends on what you mean by cost effective. If you already have a phone, you need the bluetooth adapter and mic. That's around $200 US.

Same here. The phone seems completely functional (besides of the SIM card). When I turn the ignition on, it comes up with the familiar bleeb. Even got a separate mike attached to the ceiling.

Has anyone out there (preferably in the UK) successfully hooked it up with a modern smartphone (iPhone etc.) via Bluetooth? Mobile phone systems are quite different between UK and US.

Circuit diagram anyone?

The phones may be different but the Bluetooth standard is the same. As long as the PSE works with the UK phone, you're just replacing the hardwired connection with a wireless one.

You seem to suggest that there is a dedicated bluetooth adapter for the Jag radio. Could you be a bit more specific please? Is this a standard part sold by Jaguar or a third party add-on? Where would I obtain one from? Thanks.

You need the Bluetooth module, also called the BTUM. According to H2Oboy, part numbers are as follows: C2C 39062, or 2W93-14b409-## The last two characters are the revision, usually AA, AB, AC or AD. Mine is AB and works fine. I often see them on eBay, but right now all I see is the whole setup - Jaguar Bluetooth Phone Module Interface Kit Btum PSE Mic s Type x Type XJ8 | eBay

They used to cost less than $250 from the dealer.
