The courtesy/trunk lights in my '04 XJ8 have never worked since I've had the car. Took a little time to mess with it today. Was feeling around and found one of the wires to the latch was severed, clean. (yellow wire in the harness). I reconnected it and sure enough the courtesy lamps worked. But when I started the car, it read "boot open." Disconnected the yellow wire and the message went away.

The message seemed to be totally connect to the presence of the trunk lamps. When the lights were connected they worked properly, went on and off as intended, trunk worked fine, latch and motor worked, but the car was intent regardless that the "boot" was open.

Hoping someone might have some idea? Would appreciate it. Is there some process to undertake, or do I just need to buy a new trunk latch?
