brake pads help
HELP!! Putting new pads on front of 05 XJ8 and the pads have one end tapered (chamfer) and I was curious as to which way the chamfered end pointed???
Should taper face front (clockwise) or rear and why it is tapered??
Thanks for advice

The pad is installed such that the foward rotation of the disc is into the camfer. My pads have an "arrow" printed on the pad. The arrow should point up on a correctly installed pad.
I have always assumed that the camfer reduces brake chatter and improves modulation - but I don't know where that idea came from.

I used Wagner pads on my 07 - lifetime warranty, way less dust than stock pads, cost only about $35/axle, and they are chamfered on both sides so it doesn't make any difference which wheel they get mounted on.
I used Wagner pads on my 2000 XJ8 too, and I got 80,000 miles on a front set there (and free replacements when they wore out). For some reason the pads for the 2000 were over twice as expensive as they are for the 2007.

I do not take my Jag to the track, but in normal driving I have never noticed any degradation in performance from the stock pads. Stock pads on the 2000 only lasted 16,000 miles, but the Wagners made it another 80,000 before I had to replace them.
I have never had a sound from the Wagner pads on either of my XJ8s. Don't know about any special line or name on them - I just get them at O'Riley Auto Parts 'cause they are close, cheap, and don't give me any static about free replacements.

Thanks.
I did use them on both axles of my 2000 XJ8. Since I bought the 2007, I have only needed to replace the front pads.
