Default A/c vent won't open

So I closed the far left driver's side vent today for a moment, something I have done from time to time with no issues, and when I went to open it, I heard a clunk inside the dash and now it will not open. The wheel is now rather loose compared with the others of course but does nothing to open the vent.

Any idea if this is an easy fix? Thanks

Sounds like something broke. May have to replace the vent register.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is broken, something fell inside when I turned the vent wheel and now it spins freely with no resistence like the other 3.

Any idea how easy it would be to disassemble and repair/replace?

This makes no sense, but....
www.parts.com
C2X010039 Right side = $41.41
C2C010040 Left side = $17.56

Well, now the passenger side one broke. The two middle ones work fine. Asked dealer about it and was told it is a common problem but requires disassembling the dash to repair it and would be about $1500 to do if it was out of warrranty. I still have warranty left, but tearing apart a dash scares the crap out of me.

Unless someone here knows of an easy fix, I'll just have to live with it.

Dang, I hope it's not a common problem! I better tell my passengers not to touch that knob!

But is it worth the risk of the dash getting screwed up on reassembly or rattles being created?

I say that because I have always had the worst luck with dealerships not completing repairs correctly or other things getting broken in the process.

That's why I like DIY! I always get it right.

I would have it repaired. I can't have anything not working on my cars. Even my 1988 Rolls has everything working as new!
