Question CAN BUS problems

The Cruise control sensor in my 04 XJR died and I found a replacement for $500 instead of $6500 from the ***********. I had it installed and had the unit configured for my car. The cruise not available is still on and I was informed that it is a CAN BUS error. Can anyone besides the dealer read the CAN BUS? I am trying to get this fixed for more than 6 months.

Did the Dealer do this work? Why is the installer not charged with making it work? It should cost about $120 at most dealers to get the CAN Bus analyzed. Generally, fixing them is correcting bad connections or wiring. I would pay the money to get the cruise working again. There is no other way around it that I know, you need the Dealer PDU to do this..

Default Thanks

The dealership would not install the cruise unit because I did not purchase it from them. They told me it was a safety issue. They just wanted to bang me for $7k. When I went to have them install the part, I was told that they would not do it. I think I'll bring it to another dealer to have them address the CanBus issue. Thanks.

Default Can bus problem

As far as I can work out the can bus is a network between modules and other systems in the vehicle where digital messages are sent around the network in the same way that computers communicate (I think).

If the component is not sending the message it may not be programmed to do it or as OLDmots says because of a bad connection.

The dealer has a computer which uses IDS Integrated Diagnostic Software to diagnose faults and reflash modules.

IDS is an expensive tool but many indepenent garages have it and hopefully will charge you a lot less for a diagnosis and cure. Good luck

This is the sequence of events regarding the cruise failure. While driving one day, the center message display had the message :Cruise Not Available". WHen I restarted the car the message went away. then came back. In the begining I could "trick" the system by starting in neutral and then putting the car into drive with out touching the brake pedal. That worked for a while. I brought the car in to Jaguar and they told me they tested the cruise module. They claimed it was defective. They also told me not to fix it as the part was $6,000 plus labor. I found the exact replacement part on eBay in the UK. The part number is C2C-23960. I had it replaced by a Jag tech who configured the unit to the car. I still got the Cruise not available and the flashing yellow light in the message display. I was told that now the issue is a CAN-bus problem. I need to get the car into Jaguar so that the fault can be identified. My guess is that it is a bad connection somewhere.

Hi 04blackxjr, I have been having the same problem and I am trying to solve it. See here for progress and codes, etc.:

Can you tell me where you bought that module for $500? The cheapest I have seen is $2400 for a remanufactured one. It is SO expensive. Any help would be appreciated.
