Default Changing rear parking brake cables

Hello my jaguar xj8 needs parking brake cables and the only way I can see replacing them is too drop the entire subframe has anyone done this job without dropping the subframe?

Do you have a shop manual? What does it say?
Hard to work on a car without a shop manual..

I have not done that myself; hope never will have to.
From what I have read on this forum rear subframe HAS TO BE LOWERED to access parking break motor. Not so sure about cables. There is a post over where one person cut hole in trunk where spare sits to make an access window for parking break motor. That person did a nice job covering it up.

Let's start at the beginning?
What year XJ8 do you have? The XJ had a hand lever on the emergency brake in the beginning. Going to the EPB which used a lever on the console with the 2003 year update. I think you must have a later car with the EPB?
These are very different systems.

Best look under the car and see, but I'm not sure the cables can be replaced separately from the entire actuator. Have no idea where you are, but if parking brake is not required, I'd live without it. Did for years on my 04 XJR because of the cost and location above the subframe. Not worth it to me to replace it.

OK thanks much for the car information. The later cars had replaceable cables on each side.
Item 2 and 3 in the diagram. This is from the wonderful JPART.

They could be rusted up too. Just something to check.

The actuator (Item #1) removal depends on your VIN which you did not post? Just the last 6 digits is needed.
If it's between G03446 to H99999 then yes the rear sub-frame needs to be dropped. Big job!
If it's between G0001 and G03445 then no it does not.
