Climate Control: Nav equipped vs. Standard Wiring?
I'm considering pulling out the factory NAV system in my '04 XJ8 and replacing it with a 2 DIN aftermarket product.
Since the climate control is integrated into the NAV Dash Head, I'm wondering if it's easy enough to buy a used standard climate control module and retrofitting that.
Question is: does anybody know if the wiring harness for the NAV system has an independent plug for the climate control functions that would be the same for a standard climate control (Jaguar XJ8 X350 04 09 XJ Climate Control Unit Panel 2W93 18C612 Ad | eBay Or am I getting into trouble here?
From the electrical guide, they are not directly compatible. The Nav systems control the climate module via the CAN bus, where the non-nav models are using standard signal wiring directly to the module (see Fig 6.1 in the electrical guide).
That said--from my experience Jaguar does not have separate parts for these cars. My guess is that you could probably get the climate harness from a non-nav vehicle and connect the standard climate control panel to it. However, you may need to reconfigure the CC module with SDD/IDS to tell it that the Nav setup is gone..
EDIT: from the thread on this same topic in May, you need to change the climate control module to one that has the connector for the standard control panel. See posts #11 and #12 here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...0/#post1238416
