Default Daimler Super Eight fuel consumption real world ? or XJR ?

Hi there,

I found a lovely, mint, Daimler Super Eight for sale which is very tempting.

It would be used on long journeys - or in my commuting, which is 60 kms, with almost no stops.

On the fuel economy, what can I expect ? I've seen everything from 8.8l/100 to 16l/100 on average ( translated to 15mp to 32mpg ).

Its a v8, its 400bph and a LWB - its not going to be the best economical car ever - aware of that.

But what can I realisticly expect on a highway ? at 90 mph ? what are your averages ?

( XJR owners from the same period, please chime in as well, I suspect the figures would be the same )

Goncalo,

I just looked a the car in the link you posted. Wow, thats a beauty! It looks to be in fantastic condition. The only thing I noticed in the photos, is that it looks like the headliner will need replacing soon. The price seems insanely high though, but admittedly I'm viewing that from a US perspective.

As far as milage goes. I get about 18mpg US (which equates to about 22mpg UK) when I'm driving to and from work, city driving. When I get out on the highway, that goes up to about 20mpg US (or about 24mpg UK). If you are really light on the pedal and keep it under 60mph, you can stretch that to upwards of 24mpg (29mpg UK), but I rarely ever do that.

Realistically, I think that you can expect to get between 11 and 13 Liters per 100Km.

On a side note, here is a good fuel consumption conversion calculator that I found online:

https://www.unitjuggler.com/convert-...al.html?val=20

Mr White,

Thanks for answering.

Prices are high indeed - but for a couple of reasons : in Europe there aren't many available ( Daimler Super Eights X350 ) - in mobile.de, one of biggest Europe search engines, I found... two, one at 36,000 euros and the other at 46,000 euros.

In Portugal there are 3 cars - not available, sold when new. So its quite a rare car ( in Portugal ) and even in Europe.

Thanks for your report on fuel consumption - quite good to be honest.

Anyway, thanks for the reply

that is nice. Looks to be in great condition. But price is very high. The price here would be half that much.

That is a lovely car. I have an X358 Daimler Super 8. Due to Mother-in-Law issues (Always remember: a mother-in-law is not just for Christmas) I drove from Lowestoft to South Shields (300 Miles) then Shields to Tintagel (430 Miles) then Tintagel to Falmouth, then Falmouth back to Shields (430 ish) then back to Lowestoft. Anyway - long chunk of motorway driving - around 1400 miles and the average consumption was 24.6.

Hope this helps.

Hi.
I have the same (Daimler XJR - X350, MY 2006, LWB - 4 persons, 80000 km) only in black leather.

Consumption :
City : cca 15 l/100 km
Road (90-100 km/hour): cca 12-14 l/100 km
Highway (130-160 km/hour) : cca 10-12 l/100 km
I have never been below 10 l/100 km, but maybe it's because the 400 horses are very addictive

But the price is high, I think. In Germany is the same :

One note. TV is analog, it will not work in digital broadcast.
The car is very nice. If You want it, buy it

My 2006 Super V8 with almost 140K miles averages 24 MPG US ( 9.8 l/100) on local two lane roads at 55 to 70 MPH and on four lane freeway trips at 70 to 80 MPH as high as 27 MPG US ( 8.7 l/100) if I drive conservatively and keep my foot off the floor most of the time.

My 2005 super v8 experience has about 23.5 mpg(U.K.)for combined . If on a long distance trip it's possible to get 31mpg if you really behave yourself & keep a light foot.
