Im wondering if anyone has put a larger rim on their XJ8, VDP.

Im wondering if it made it ride super hard.. I am getting a custom wheel, the my rim guy says the will be about the same height as the stock wheels...

Just looking to see if the air ride will give me problems etc

OK so regarding the 22's, if we take the stock size 255/35R20, and compare it to 255/25R22 (if that tyre even exists) then yes the circumference is the same.

But 255/25R22 is a sidewall of only 2.5", that's getting pretty slim. I would expect the hardest ride of your life with that tyre.

Of course this would also put a bit more stress on the suspension bushes and the air shocks, that sort of jarring ride isn't "good" for the suspension.

Hoping I might get my 21's mounted in the next month or so, but i've been saying that for a while...

 

Holy shitbatman those wheels are perfect. The size tire im gonna run is a 245-255 30 22 .

GvilleVDP, you may want to reconsider unless you do not mind a much harder ride & more tire noise. Obviously, it's a matter of opinion (and maybe age) as to whether one prefers comfort or looks. Personally, I believe one should not over-power the classy look of the Jag with wheels that are too flashy and large; it's not like its a Caprice or Cutlass whereby the wheels are more expensive than the car.
I replaced the original rims and tires on my wife's 2004 XJ8 for added comfort. I think the original rims were 17" or 18" and I don't recall the original tire size; I do recall purchasing an 18"x8" rim & 245/50 Michelin tires. Less noise & much smoother ride. Looks more beefy with the larger tire. I also have a 2008 XJ whereby I am now at 19K on the original 255-40-R19 Perelli tires. The tire noise on the 2008 is much greater & the ride is less comfortable than the 2004. Soon, I will purchase some Michelin's with a higher sidewall for my 2008 XJ. I have attached an image of the rim I am leaning toward for my gold colored 2008 XJ; the rim will be chrome. The original XJ 19" wheels look OK; but, I don't like painted rims.

I use this site for tyre size comparison Tyre Size Calculator | Kouki Tech remember the speedometers on these cars are not exact my XJ is out by 8km per hour

The rental I am using at the moment is nearly 10

I have used the above calculator to match tyres to get my speedo fairly accurate on my old XJR6 I got it from 8 to 3 k out on the wife's Jeep I got it spot on and on the wife's old Citroen got it spot on
I tried to play with profiles on my XJ8 but the tyres needed did not exist I have 19 inch artura wheels on my XJ8 245/40/19 front 275/35/19 rear on 8 and 9 inch rims

Remember that if your speedometer is out the mileage recorded is not really true on the Jeep the car had 192,000 k,s when I bought it but the actual mileage was 179,000 the speedometer was that far out
Not to mention when travelling long distances that extra few k,s per hour accuracy shorten travelling times and its nice to know you are doing the speed limit when you really are saves hassles with the law

It is a bit frustrating when you do get the speedo correct you then notice everyone else is driving slower and you passenger seat driver will tell you to slow down (LOL)

Ok, for all the other asking why. Because I want to thats why. This is my daily beat around in car. It's a mint condition car that id like to change a few things about.

I assume when all of you think 22 inch rims you think of some hood, ghetto junk. Thats not what im after at all.
Something euro looking in a 2 or 3 piece wheel that has a 3 or 4 inch mirror lip.

Im not in my 100's like most of you fellows out there, thats a joke... Im 29, I like to change things about my cars to make them mine.

If you dont like it, keep.on truckin and give your opinion to someone else.

I have a 04 XJ8 and I also was wondering about the rims size on this year and model.I have car getting fresh completely new everything timing being done as we speak ,I removed the air ride and replaced with coil,and plan to up the rim size cause I like the look also.So what did you come up with ??? post some pictures please .I will post some of mine soon,I also have purchased all upper control arms new,outer tire rods new,rear torque toe ties new ,rear stabilizer both sides new,brakes,rotors with holes,new center caps.I want my roof interior custom sued done in future also.all this is being done in 30 days stay tuned.but i cant say i sure on the rim size yet ??

With the coils I would assume it would ride much harder with low pros. I have coils and debated going 20"s even, but in sticking with the stock tire and wheel size going aftermarket, I found that tire air pressure plays a much bigger part in ride comfort than it did on air suspension. I still will eventually go to 20"s and keep my 18"s I bought for snow tires if I move back north if I keep the car for a long time.
