Default Driver's front door lock issue

I have been reading the forums for a while now, but this is my first time posting.
I recently purchased a 2005 XJ8L, in pretty nice shape, but needed a little work to be 100%. Most of the issues have been resolved, but I wanted to post up before starting the repair on the door lock.
When I press unlock on the key fob, I hear the groan of a motor(actuator), but the driver's side front door does not unlock. If I press it a second time, the rest of the doors unlock(they do not make the same sound as the driver's side front door), but the driver's side door does not.
If I put the key in the door lock, I can manually unlock and lock the door just fine. From inside the car, I can unlock and lock all doors from the driver's side front door panel. From the passenger side front door panel, I can unlock and lock all doors except the driver's door.
To me, it seems that the driver's side front door lock actuator is stripped out, and makes noise, but doesn't work. I just wanted to check with more experienced Jaguar owners, before I remove the door panel and replace the part. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Default Bad door lock assembly

Hi,

I now have the exactly the same problem on my 2007 XJ8L. We are stuck with replacing the door lock module. There are some available on Ebay, just make sure it is the correct part for the drivers door. they are all different.

Will do mine when I get some time, or the door won't lock at all!

Regards,

Don

I will second Don's reply, I had the same problem on my 07 and needed to have the door module replaced. it works great now but it is not a cheap part and thank you Jaguar Select warranty.

Thanks Don and Barry for your responses and confirmation! I will pick one up within the next week or so, and hopefully get the issue resolved soon. I should have it back to 100% in no time!

Thanks again!!

Just an update. I picked up another door module, and attempted replacement. I got the door panel and door liner (surprised it was that substantial) removed, and removed the electrical connections and bolts from the module. I was able to get the one metal slide assembly(held in place with plastic clip, popped off and rotated out of way to release), but was not able to figure out the other one. I ran out of time, and had to put it all back together.

After the fact, I remembered that I have a bore scope, and could use that to see how the other connection is configured. For now, I will probably live with it as-is, but fix it once the weather gets warmer again.

Thanks again for all of the help!

Dave I am familiar with these locks but can't imagine which fitting you were unable to work out unless you mean the cable from the handle which can be disconnected at the handle end.

If you wish PM with your e mail address for photos of the modules.

Dave, My recently posted HOW TO Door Lock Removal guide may assist you to remove your actuator. (Sorry, I'm new to the Forum and don't yet know how to provide a link)

Bruce, I would also be most interested in your guide as I have the same issue than Dave since a year now, coming and disappearing from time to time...

Serge, the link to the guide is https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...repair-132821/ (within the XJ8 HOW TO guides).
If your actuator will lock but not unlock, it might just need lubrication, rather than replacement.
