Default Dumb Question - How do you aim the bloody high beams?

The white screw / bolt thing isn't moving anything and doesn't really turn / I don't want to break it.

I know they are tamper-proof to a certain extent, but I have to be missing something simple here??

My left hand high beam needs a tilt up, it has always been weird and is driving me crazy (at last)..

thanks!

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

There are no dumb questions, only dumb answers...

I can't recall the details, but I believe I saw the instructions for aiming the high beams in the workshop manual, probably the Body section. If you don't have the manual, you can download it in six sections at the links below:

Cheers,

Don

The white plastic part where you put an allen/hex key in from the top is a gear which turns another plastic part, if it's stiff you don't want to force it as it will break the teeth on the gears.

You should be able to get a spanner (10mm?) on the back side of the headlight and turn the main shaft of the adjuster, as opposed to the allen/hex key from the top.

Will need to remove the plastic cover over the radiator.

Had this problem with my S-Type when I rebuilt the headlights, from memory it's the same on the XJ too...

Thanks all, once it gets above 20 degrees outside, I'll go fuss with it again!
