Dvd disc error - alpine 2008 xj vdp
Hi Guys,
Just did a quick run with my garaged 2008 XJ VDP just to get it moving, not using it much this winter due to insane amounts of snow in NY. I tried using the rear DVD player (stopping of course), never having tried it since purchasing the car used in Sept with 68k Houston TX miles on it. I'm getting a DISC ERROR message on a new factory DVD, not a home burned one. Wondering if anyone has any ideas what is causing this. I tried multiple DVD's as well. Same issue.
Also -- Would the later versions of the Alpine DVA 5205, the 5207 and 5210 be compatible with my now antiquated system? I may just grab a replacement unit as they seem to be available.
Thanks as always!
Chris

I'd always start with the cheapest and easiest thing - run a lens-cleaning disk through it. These have a tuft of soft fibres that brush dust and dirt off the lens. Any hi fi or music dealer will have them.
Tried everything mentioned. No luck. Pulled the unit and took it to a local electronics shop. Said it could cost between $200-$300 as they suspect the laser assembly. I took it back home did a quick search on ebay and got lucky. Found the exact model for $199. Used but working. So now I have a parts unit as I'm sure these players will soon be impossible to get.
Are there any replacement units manufactured for this system, or are we in the doghouse on the rear entertainment system in the future?
Thanks for all the suggestions!
Cheers,
Chris

I am having the same issue with my player but only with certain dvd's. I have a feeling since it's older it will only play certain format dvd's. Does anyone happen to know what format the old Alpine players read?
